About
Dr. Birkenbach believes that maximizing the positive impacts of biomedical research on health requires rigorous analysis of results and clear communication among investigators, medical providers, and the broader public. During her undergraduate studies in chemistry at Duke University, Kathryn recognized how science communication, when leveraged effectively, had the power to improve public understanding of emerging research as well as to facilitate greater scientific advancement itself. Since then, she has devoted her career to using her skills in written and oral communication to bridge gaps across biomedical fields and between the research laboratory and everyday health.
Dr. Birkenbach completed doctoral and post-doctoral studies at Columbia University, where she led research projects focused on the intersection of neuroscience, metabolic biology, and gastroenterology. Simultaneously, she sought every opportunity to bring science to the general public, authoring popular science articles for student magazines, leading youth laboratory visits, and offering outreach lectures for local New York City residents. She built on these experiences in her subsequent role as the Director of Research for Early Medical and The Drive podcast, where she oversaw the analysis, synthesis, and communication of cutting-edge research across a broad range of topics related to health, chronic disease, and longevity.
Now, as an independent consultant, Dr. Birkenbach is happy to bring her expertise in biomedical research and science communications to individuals and organizations who value accurate and nuanced insights without sacrificing clarity and engagement.
